Puqpress Mini (Gen 6) Precision Coffee Tamper

The story of the Puqpress is one of our favourite examples of engineering meeting caffeine. Drawing on his experience stabilising massive oil rigs, Dutch engineer Laurens Pluimers overheard a barista complaining about the physical toll of manual tamping. In a single day, Pluimers built a prototype designed to stabilise a coffee bed with the same precision he applied to 10,000-ton sea vessels.

By 2015, that prototype had evolved into the Puqpress Q1, the world’s first commercial automatic precision tamper. In the decade since, PUQ has fundamentally shifted the coffee industry’s approach, taking tamping from an inconsistent human variable into a repeatable mechanical science. The Puqpress doesn’t just save your wrists; it removes a massive source of extraction error, ensuring your shots are as consistent at 4 PM as they were at 8 AM. 

The Puqpress Mini tamps in about a second, depending on your chosen tamping profile. It can work with pretty much any size of portafilter, whether naked or with spouts, and with its embedded non-stick nanotechnology coating, the surface retains almost no coffee grounds. Just insert your portafilter with coffee grounds and it tamps! It effectively "levels the playing field" between a novice and a world champion, ensuring that the puck is identical every single time, which is essential for dialling in precise recipes.

While the larger Puqpress model Q, and its Pro variant are intended for high-volume cafes, the Puqpress Mini is specially engineered for dedicated home baristas or low-volume coffee operations. It fits on any bar or counter, and has been built so tough that it comes with a 2-year warranty, or 150,000 tamps. A notable upgrade for the sixth generation model is a high-torque motor with a more robust construction, designed to tamp up to 7kg of coffee per week with even greater reliability than its predecessor. The Puqpress Mini is PUQ’s most compact and affordable model and is perfect for your home or low-volume coffee business if you require extraction consistency.
