Rancilio has long been one of the dominant forces in the market for commercial espresso equipment. The manufacturer has been building their machines in Italy since the 1920s. At the end of the last century, they also began dabbling in home espresso equipment with great success. After its launch, the Silvia espresso machine became (and remains) one of the most beloved home espresso machines in the world, for its incredible quality and affordable price. Since then, Rancilio has also released the Rocky espresso grinder to match the machine. Now, Rancilio has built a grinder for the emerging "prosumer" niche: The Rancilio Stile.

About the Rancilio Stile Coffee Grinder

Admittedly, when we first saw the Stile what stuck out to us most was the design. Gone are the rounded plastic features of the company's other grinders, replaced by the striking stainless steel and aluminium body of the Stile. Its boxy design is beautifully modern and draws on the iconic shape of the Silvia espresso machine. It would make the perfect companion for that machine, or its big sister, the Rancilio Silvia Pro.

The Stile has much more than just its looks going for it though. Its 58mm flat steel burrs are precise and, thanks to the 1200RPM motor, the grinder is fast and efficient, though surprisingly quiet. Where the machine really stands out from Rancilio's home grinder offerings is in the interface. A large and bright touchscreen display dominates the front of the grinder, making it a dream to use. Approachable, intuitive, and free from bloat, the Stile's touch interface lets you program and use three time-based doses quickly and conveniently with little fuss. The output is reliably consistent, making this a feature that could easily be used by a small café operation. Grinding can also be done manually with the push of a portafilter, offering maximum control to the user.

Other notable features of the Stile include its 300g hopper, which integrates neatly with the rest of the machine's square design. You can also now choose a version with a large 510g integrated hopper with the same aesthetic. The grinder features micrometric stepped adjustment by way of a large dial accessible on either side of the machine. The Stile can grind just as well for espresso as any other brew method, though it's not specifically designed for frequently switching between very different grind settings.
